MOBBING: present participle

• To crowd around (someone) in an unruly and excitable way in order to attack them.

Professor and practising psychologist Heinz Leymann reported that workplace bullying, mobbing and general harassment may have accounted for an estimated 15% of suicides.

He went on to say that what he calls Mobbing can be considered a "virus" or a "cancer" that spreads throughout the workplace or home via gossip, rumor, and unfounded accusations.

Leymann points out that the "mental effects" were fully comparable with those of PTSD. Some people may develop alcoholism or other substance abuse disorders. Family, and relationships routinely suffer. Targets often develop brief psychotic episodes, generally with paranoid symptoms.
